    Notes:

N1....Daughters Anna, Janet and Christian probably died in infancy while Jean and Margaret died in their teens in 1748 followed by John who died in 1750.

N2....Alex Gordon was still alive in 1745.

N3....Janet Watson, assumed still alive, was the widow of Skipper, John Prott, who died on 6.1.1735 in Broadhyth. Christian Prott, a presumed daughter, married William Wood and moved to Portknockie in 1734.

N4....Anne McKenzie was the widow of George Thain, last recorded in 1728 at the baptism of their youngest son, who was unnamed and does not appear to have survived. Jean McBay, natural daughter of John McBay and Isabel Ross, was sponsored by George Thain, and may have been brought up with this family. Daughter Elizabeth had a natural child Mary in 1743 but nothing else is known.

N5....Christian Badon was first recorded as a witness in 1734. She died in Decemmber 1742.

N6....This family was not recorded after the baptism of their daughter, Anna, and may have left the village by 1841.

N7....William Cook was a resident in Broadhyth in 1743 when he died and so is counted in this estimation.

N8....John Flett appeared regularly on the `Poor Money Distribution' list from 1746. Margaret Sharp was John Flett's second wife, probably the daughter of William Sharp and Janet Christie, (See Note N10). His first was Elspet Prott. A daughter, Anna, from his first marriage did not survive as the earlier Anna from his second marriage. Daughter Elspet also did not survive. Son John married Jean Mackay of Portessie in 1744, but nothing more was recorded.

N9....This family was last recorded in Findochty in 1740. They subsequently moved to Cullen parish.

N10...Elspet Sharp was the daughter of William Sharp and Janet Christie from Grange. William, presumed a widower, had migrated with son John and daughters Margaret, (See S8), and Elspet. Son Alex seems not to have survived, but is counted here.

N11...Alex McKenzie many times recorded as witness during the 1730s. His Wife Anna McCulloch died in 1743, and he died in Broadhyth in 1748.

N12...Elspet McPherson was the widow of John Cormack. She died in 1750. It isn't clear when they arrived in the village, but they may have been related to Anne Cormack who was married to Robert McKenzie, who since seemingly left Broadhyth, during the 1730s.

N13...A Daughter Anna died before 1848, and is not recorded here. Sons Alex and William seemingly did not survive, and are not counted.

    N14...William McBay died in 1743.

N15...William Smith appeared regularly as a witness in Broadhyth from 1727 and he may have been John Smith's brother. He may be the William Smith who was jilted by Elizabeth Geddes in Findochty in 1736. Anna's sister, Katherine Steel, appeared regularly on the the `Poor Money Distribution' list from 1746 to her death in 1755.

N16...No records of this family appear after son John's baptism in 1734, and so the members are noted but not counted here.

N17...No futher records after their marriage contract in 1737 have so far been found for this family, and so they are noted but not counted in this estimation.

N18...Son William and daughter Elspet seemed not to have survived, but are counted here.

N19...Margaret Smith was the widow of Alex Forbes who died in February 1740. Sons Alex and William, born in 1724 and in 1731 did not survive. Son James was born in June 1740, almost three months after his father's death. Son Walter died in June 1741, and is recorded but not counted here. Margaret died in 1748.

N20...Alex Flett was born in Burghead. Daughter Elspeth died in June 1741 and is recorded but not counted here. Son Alex died before 1747 and the burial at MI 176 in 1734 may be relevant. Anna McKenzie died in 1748.

N21...John Luke was recorded regularly in Broadhyth as a witness from 1727 until 1755.

N22...No records appear for Robert and Catherine Ross and they likely have moved away, and so not counted.

N23...The baptismal entry does not name the `child', and so a son, Alex, is assumed from the two witnesses. Margaret and Alex do not appear in later records and may not have survived.

N24...This family had moved to Cullen parish, possibly by 1738, where the daughters marriages were subsequently recorded. The family is therefore recorded but not counted here.

N25...Margaret Watson was the widow of carpenter, John Nicol, who died in October 1741. The family seemingly left the village soon after and so are not counted here.

N26...Anna Smith was the natural daughter of Alex Smith and Jean Sinclair who died in 1737, and probably was brought up by George Sinclair, her grandfather in rural Findochty.

N27...William and John Farquhar witnessed in Broadhyth until 1735, and so are noted but not counted in 1741.

N28...Peter Sinclair and Janet Allan had moved to Keith by 1741, and so as temporary residents are not counted here.
