McConville's Address to the Broon Envelope

On friend Joyce's taking early retirement, which finally came through by mail delivery

of a brown envelope, and so the package becomes synonymous with the retirement itself.

Oh tardy Broon Envelope, whar hae ye been,

Fair scunnert, oor waiting your reaching the scene;

Bureaucracy's pace pose a tortiss nae fear,

So, "měle fŕilte", my overdue freen.

Farewell, futile toil. Hail, freedom of Joyce,

Self int'rest, indulgence, alternative choice.

On tour with the 'van or jist bidin' at hame,

Himsel' the "Domestic", and me in good voice!

Welcome, Broon Envelope, a sicht for sair een;

Early mornings an end, late-hame a has-been;

Now, leisurly long-lies wi' breakfast in bed,

Luxurious life-style, fit for a queen.

Quinque times decem, - a super young age

Retirement to start, a fresh life to assuage;

So "Cheers"! Here's a toast to the magic Broon Yin,

"The future", and launch of a well-earn'd new page.
