Paul Smith Memorial Trophy's

Paul who passed away in August 2004 had a life long association with the club, though he never played for Boleskine in competitive shinty he was an integral part of the club as a committee member, grounds-man, raffle organiser, but perhaps the role he was most acknowledged for and fulfilled the position so well for many years was that of goal judge.  It was fulfilling these duties in 1997 that he unfortunately lost an eye.  Paul, as unassuming as usual, never complained about his loss and carried on with his life as before including occasionally taking up the goal judge flag again. Prior to the opening of the Sale of work in Gorthleck Hall on 11Nov  the winners for the U12 & U14 trophy's were announced, the U17 will be decided at a later date following completion of their league fixtures. Joey Smith, Paul's younger brother presented the U12 Cup to Ewen Fraser winner of that section , and to Gavin Butterworth the U14 Cup winner of that section. On the 24 Feb 07 after the Veterans v Present team game the U17 cup winner was announced and  Andrew Young was presented with the trophy by Joey Smith .

Boleskine U14 win North Division 2 League

Boleskine U14 won their long awaited final league match against Lochaber at Smith park by five goals to one, to gain the two points required  to secure the league championship. Boleskine's total points are one point greater, than the total their nearest challengers Kinlochshiel could attain if they won their outstanding fixtures.

A great end to a tremendous season for the U14 team, whose achievements surpassed all expectations at the onset of the season eleven months ago . Their endeavour and commitment shone through over the league programme and they fully deserved the title, the experience they have gained from being a raw team at the start of the season has shone through and shows in their play. Congratulations to the U14 coach Rod Munro for his hard work over the season to mould the players into a successful unit and to the coaches who trained them in the U12's  Steve Munro, Alister Chisholm, Peter Macdonald & Joey Smith. Its great to see all the efforts put in over the years paying off, this is the first silverware a Boleskine Juvenile team have won since 1962 Strathdearn six a side win

A big thank you to all the parents for their help and assistance over the seasons, the club greatly appreciates the support we get from you all .

Boleskine secured the point required against Kincraig away, in their two all draw to ensure that their points total could not be surpassed by the other teams in the division . In a very tough encounter Boleskine scored first through a Lewis Smith penalty, only for Kincraig to equalise making the score one apiece at half time .  Kincraig scored again early after the restart and it looked as though the would hold to win, but Lewis Smith scored from close in with five minutes left to  to gain the draw required, making the final two league matches academic .  Footnote . Following their win against Glenurquhart at Drumnadrochit on 22 Nov, Boleskine were presented with the Interim Div 5 shield on behalf of the Camanachd Associaton, by Allan Bell of Glenurquhart.

Boleskine up the Ben

On 18 October The Boleskine U14 team along with Parents, Coaches, and Supporters had a sponsored walk up the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis to raise club funds.  The 17 kids and 11 adults climbers ages ranging from 8-60 met at the car park at the foot of the mountain at approx 8:30am ,on a very cold Saturday morning.

We agreed to take it fairly easy and take plenty of breaks. Commenced our accent  at 9:00am we set off in single file with the idea of having an adult at the head and at the end of the queue. The mountain was fairly busy with walkers passing both up and down the paths. The footpaths were very well set out and it was clear that the authorities had spent plenty money and time putting them in perfect condition. The first half an hour or so was spent walking around the foothills to get to the BEN. The summit was not visible until approx three quarters of the way up and their are numerous "false summits". The half way point of the climb is marked by a beautiful loch  and by the time we reached this milestone the sun had come out and we were drenched in sunshine.

The upper part of the walk is made up of zig-zag paths meandering upwards and you can make out the muddy trails carved out by the hill runners from the annual challenge race. Having climbed the BEN, you have to question the mentality of anyone who attempts to run up it!  Apparently the record is 1 hour and twenty minutes to get up and down!!    On reaching the summit after 5 hours climbing  the group were rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding land, coasts and Islands including the Irish coastline.    We spent an hour having lunch at the summit and do a bit of sunbathing!

The visibility  was that clear that  through Iain Hepburn telescope you could make out the players on the shinty park at Spean Bridge over ten miles away .

There is an old weather station on the top of the BEN and we all took some photos with the club banner beside the boys. We started to descend the mountain at approx 3:00pm and it took approx three hours to reach base camp, by which time everyone was absolutely exhausted but very glad that they had their first Ben ascent under their belts and happy that they had raised over £2000 for club funds. Special mention must go to Norrie Matheson who was going to pack it in after 100 yards, but soldiered on to complete the walk along with everyone who started.

On a hot evening, with the pitch dry and fast, conditions were more suited to the youngsters better overall fitness, the result was a win for the 2003 team by six goals to one.  The game was very competitive with both teams determined to  produce a good performance and the skills demonstrated by both teams was appreciated by the spectators young and old alike .   The Cup was presented Davy Gillies present team captain by Christine Shaw sister of Brian Stoddart and the medals to both teams by Maxi Smith . Boleskine Challenge Cup

After a break of several years, the Boleskine Challenge Cup was again contested at Farr on the 2nd of August . The competing teams were Boleskine and Strathglass, which the visitors won by four goals to nil. The score line flattered Strathglass as it was fairly even game, in which they took their chances and Boleskine failed to do so, with two late strikes for the visitors making the result appear more convincing than it was.
