Annual General Meeting - 12 July 2010
The committee elected for 2010 - 2011:-
Chairman – Susan Inglis
Treasurer/General Secretary – Stuart White
Membership Secretary – Bill Gower
Volunteer Coordinator – Eric Copley General Members – Alison Brown, Tony Mallinder, John Clarke and Sally Huckle.
The AGM was held in the Niagara Centre and was well attended. This year’s committee, listed above was re-elected all except Ruth Preston and continues to carry vacancies for General Members. Chairman Sue Inglis announced that Ruth, Sister on Chesterman 3, who has been a general member on the committee and associated with SHOC since it started, has resigned. Ruth wishes to continue her membership and to support SHOC where she can. Sue has also received notification that the current president Dr Graham Davies is no longer able to continue in the position. He agreed the post when he was chairman of the Cardiac Committee but is now retiring from his hospital work. He thanked SHOC for allowing him the position. Following discussion the committee was asked to explore who might take over the post and members hoped that one of the surgeons would be willing.
Stuart White (Treasurer) gave an overview of the club’s finances which had been examined by accountant Robert Tippett and found to be in good order and consistent with SHOC’s charitable status. A regular annual review is now in place inviting the Matrons on Chesterman to consider appropriate donation requests from SHOC. As a result the committee is currently looking at the following applications – White Board, Infusion Arm Trainer, replacement furniture for the quiet room on Chesterman 3&4 and a skeletal thorax for education purposes. It also plans to move and update the SHOC notice board in the outpatient area and has approved the purchase of the new volunteer’s shirts.
Sue Inglis concluded the meeting by thanking members for the support they give; the committee for its work over the past year and acknowledged the important role of the volunteers; that their service to patients on the wards was second to none.
