WIDMER END "B"

 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2001/2

Widmer End Short Mat Bowls Club was formed in 1997 by several members of Holmer Green SMBC leaving to form their own club.

Around the same time Widmer End village hall became available for use as a venue, so those like-minded bowlers, about thirty, formed WESMBC. The inaugural meeting was held on 20/8/1997, and of the original 32 members, 23 are still with us out of our current membership of 44.

The committee is virtually the same now as at the inaugural meeting, with Terry Darvill the Chairman, Hubert Cox the Vice-Chairman, Lilian Lovegrove the Secretary, Dave Plater the Treasurer, and Ian McLeod Fixture Secretary, with two of these also holding office on the South Bucks League committee.

The Club is split into two teams of equal standing, and both play in the South Bucks SMB League and the Single Mat League.

The "B" Team

For most of the ‘B’ team’s existence Hubert Cox captained the S Bucks team , with Terry Darvill captaining the Single Mat team.

The present Captain of the South Bucks B team is Arnold (Arnie) Jaffe.

The "B" team has been reasonably successful as can be seen by the competitions won: -

South Bucks League in 1998/99 & 2001/02.

Single Mat League in 1998/99 & 2000/01.

Single Mat Hazells Challenge in 2000/01 & 2001/02.

Single Mat Triples Challenge 1998/99 & 2000/01.

S Bucks Gala Day, Triples 1996/97 & 1997/98: All 4 trophies in 1999/2000 & 2000/01: Singles & Overall trophy in 2002/03.

Holmer Green (Outdoor) Masters 2002.

Currently we have 3 County players.

There have also been several trophy winners at  Warners SMB tournaments.
