News from other clubs:

Once again, a group of bowlers from Bellingdon and Chinnor Short Mat Bowls Clubs, travelled down to Torquay for the TLH Short Mat Bowls Tournament over the weekend of 27th - 30th March 2009.

The triple of Irene Roberts, Ann Hine and Brian Latham won through to the final of the Championships where they met a very strong side from Wales and were only just beaten. Well done to them.

Jack and Hazel Rutley came second in the Pairs Championships. A fantastic performance considering this was their first visit to this particular tournament.

The Triple of Val Latham, Dave Whitehead and Bob Hine won through to the final of the Plate competition and again were unfortunate in losing to a stronger side on the day. But well done to them all.

Congratulations to all the players. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will look forward to even better results next year.

Holmer Green Masters competition

This annual event was held on Sunday 20th July, and although the weather remained dry, a cool wind kept all the bowlers wrapped up in jumpers and cardigans and a rush at break time for a hot cup of tea. Despite this there was some excellent bowling on the Holmer Green outdoor short mat facility, with Sands winning for the second year in succession. Bellingdon were runners up, a creditable performance for their first year in the competition.

This year saw several clubs entering for the first time, with Bellingdon, Chesham and Coleshill new to this event, which has been running now for 7 years and is a highlight in the short mat bowls Summer calendar.
