County trials are held at the start of the season (usually towards the end of September) which are open to all age groups; from these trials, County Squads are selected at U13, U15 & U17 levels. All Squads receive regular coaching and players are selected to represent Shropshire in Inter-County matches.

Tournaments are also held in all age groups throughout the season and in addition to the County Squads there are many other regional groups across the County where boys and girls of every standard can meet to practise and play badminton. Shropshire also play in the "Shires League" which provides varied competition and a stimulating challenge to our junior players.

The junior playing season usually culminates with the Inter Counties Tournament at Nottingham University. In recent seasons Shropshire have finished well and all the players should be proud of their achievements. The coaches do everything they can to help but ultimately it is up to the players to put in the effort and improve.

Shropshire junior players have also recently had may notable successes in the E.S.B.A age group tournaments. Entry to these tournaments is usually organised by parents and players themselves and it is to their credit that Shropshire is now firmly "on-the-map" in National junior competitions.

Shropshire was one of the founder members of the Midland Counties B.A. in 1959, primarily to sponsor the Midland Counties Junior Championships, first played April 1960 at Lilleshall Hall. Our season usually culminates with entry to the I.C.T U17's event at Nottingham University.
