What the Critics said....

Folk North West - "Coast to Coast is a fine debut from a highly talented singer and multi-instrumentalist. The album should appeal to those who appreciate the more traditional aspects of folk as well as those who appreciate fine song interpreters. Simon Haworth has the talent and ability to launch himself on a long and sustainable solo career...Haworth has a clear, relaxed, distinctive vocal style that owes something to the influence of Jez Lowe and a strong hint of Al Stewart"

The Living Tradition - "I had Simon down as a fine accompanying guitarist (which he is - check out his work with Carlene Anglim and Tina Cooper elsewhere or here with Amanda Lewis and Julian Sutton) but on this recorded evidence he is well up on the song-interpretation front too. Reading between the lines of the insert notes, his dad's record collection seems remarkably similar to ours, so with such a tasteful resource behind him, Simon is already a long way down the right track. And he can play the guitar just like ringin' a bell"

DIRTY LINEN Aug/Sep 99 "His singing and presentation style bear some resemblance's to Jez Lowe...he is a tasteful guitar player, making this altogether a stellar release from a major young talent. Throughout, the material and its presentation illustrate the melding of British and Scottish elements, characteristic of Northumbrian music."

Folk Roots (Now FROOTS) -
"Young, talented singer, guitarist wends a tuneful path through a well-chosen set...He's very good and would do a good night for a club, I'm sure."

Stuart Cook, FOLK BUZZ -
"An important first CD from a young singer. Although a good musician, the emphasis here is on his singing, unusual amongst the youngsters on the folk scene where the musicians tend to grab the headlines.  The singers seem thin on the ground and many do not impress me with their singing as much as their playing.  Simon has an excellent voice and showcases it well on this album...He sings, plays and composes exceptionally well. With a clear direction in mind, he will emerge as an important asset to the folk world in years to come...This is a very good CD from a young singer. On his second or third we'll be hearing some remarkable music if he continues to progress. 10/10 for Simon and 11/10 for Paul Adams."

Folk London
- "...my interest deepened as I heard his vocal tone (slightly reminiscent of Jez Lowe)...There are some excellent traditional songs...surprisingly he has only included one of his own songs - the wistful "The Maid of the Stream"...he comes into his own as a composer of tunes for instance the strangely titled "The Diminishing Bouree/Coast to Coast"...I enjoyed this CD and hopefully you will too...Has he thought of putting a band together for festivals?"

Stirrings -
"...tunes are woven into songs in a very clever way, without the listener being aware. If you read the CD cover you realise what is going on, and it is skilfully carried out. But of course you do not need to analyse the music just enjoy its easy flow...I recommend that you go to see him, buy the CD or both!"

Rock N Reel - "Haworth attacks the tune-sets with vigour and manages to kick up the musical dust with ease especially - his own compositions. He ably demonstrates his virtuosity on the acoustic guitar...his workmanlike style is pleasantly appealing"
