| Part 2 :- Upper wing assembly inc guns etc. The kit looks very easy to
build as it only has a few parts, but looks
can be deceiving. The work involved is in the filling of gaps in the
poorly fitting parts & doing a bit of modification to some
parts. SECTION 4 :- Gun alterations One flaw with all the start fury kits are the front guns. They do not have the ports drilled & there are large areas of them that need filling in. To save softening the plastic by using loads of filler & cut up some old sprue & thin plastic card to fill in the gaps in the lower guns to start with, allow it to dry then use filler to finish the job & used plastic card to cover the rest of the upper wing guns. The gun ports were drilled out with a 1.0mm & 2.0mm drill bits. It was then time to tidy up the guns by trimming off the excess plastic & a few turns at filling then sanding to get the desired effect. SECTION 5 :- Upper wing fitting Before fitting the top of the wings, the upper guns need fitting. These only sit on a little plastic stub & if you are not careful the angle of the guns can be wrong. I found that to get the correct angle I used a slow acting glue to fix them at this point, held the lower part of the wing in place with tape, then rested the whole wing on the earlier sub-section to see how they look & if needs be use some form of packing to get the gap between the fuselage & guns correct. When dry I took the wing assembly back off the fuselage & properly fixed the lower wing section on on top.
SECTION 6 :- Exhaust sub assembly I thought while the wing was drying to build up the rear exhausts. These come in 3 parts, the nozzel, one large & one small one on either side. The first one I fitted was the larger vane, which just fits over the mounting pin & allowed to dry. The smaller vanes are glued to the other mounting pin. Two get fixed on the top of the pin & the others at the bottom. This is because of the way they will finally sit on the model when finished. I found it easier at this point to spray the exhausts in Humbrol "Gun Metal" & then to highlight the nozzle lines with a black fine marker & then to give a dry brushing with Humbrol "Polished Aluminium". These units were put on one side for fitting later.
