British Schools Champions
- 21st November 2005
At the weekend Franki's School took the British
Schools Dry Slope title and Franki added the Individual British School's title to the
English Schools title that she won last month.Back on Track - L&SERSA series win - 2nd
October 2005
Franki was able to put last weekend's crash behind her as she skied to victory in the last
of the L&SERSA summer series races this weekend. Despite convincing wins in the only
other 2 L&SERSA races in which Franki had competed, she needed to nail this one as it
was the best 3 results to count. With Charlotte Evans, who had not missed a race, winning
the other two races it was a winner takes all scenario. In the event, Franki took the race
by almost a second, to clinch both age group and overall titles.
Oops - 24th September 2005
Hillend is like no other slope in the UK and was always
going to be a tough venue for the British Dry slope Championships. However Franki
negotiated the top steep section in a very impressive way, only to make a slight error
coming onto the easier flat section. This left her lying in 5th place after the first run,
but only about 2 tenths of a second off 2nd place there was everything to play for on the
second run. Unfortunately all hope came to a muddy end at the bottom of "the
wall" as Franki bounced and slid across the grass & heather. Click here to see the
action !! but be patient whilst it loads (you might need to click here to
download Quicktime to view it) Happily no broken bones and she
was back on her skis as part of the winning England A girls team in the afternoon parallel
slalom. Despite an understandable reluctance to launch herself down the wall the next day,
in her first ever GS race on plastic, Franki managed a far more confident second run to
finish 3rd in her age group. This coming weekend she will be returning to the far more
familiar surroundings of her home slope for the last of the Regional races.
Another fast and furious
weekend in Wales - 11th September 2005
Franki continued to show her form at the Welsh
Championships at Llandudno this weekend. Once again convincingly winning her age group on
both days she finished a very impressive 2nd overall in the Welsh National competition on
Saturday. In the Open competition she put in a storming first run to take her within 0.19
seconds of the lead. Unfortunately a slight error on the second run saw her eventually
drop to 4th overall, but she was not threatened within her age group.
3rd overall All England - 4th
September 2005
Franki's dry slope skiing has certainly gone up a gear
with a comfortable age group win and 3rd overall at the All England Dry Slope
Championships. On the Sunday she was also a member of the winning Wycombe club team in the
Parallel Slalom on the Sunday.
Two out of two in Regional
races - 14th June 2005
Franki's return to the dry slope got off to a good start
with a 4th overall (2nd in JN1) at the Norwich Club National on June 4th. Things didn't
quite go to plan in the Grandprix on Sunday, but she bounced back to take the overall
title in the L&SERSA race at Bromley this weekend, making it Two out of two! Still
short of practice, a slightly tentative first run left Franki going into the deciding run
with a small deficit to make up against Charlotte Evans, but Franki pulled out all the
stops to record the fastest female time of the day and secure not only her age group, but
also the overall fastest female time.
"I am really pleased with the way it is going. Having
not skied on plastic at all during the winter, and having missed the first 6 weeks of the
season, I was really concerned that I would be out of contention. Now I need to
concentrate on getting some plastic training in"
Selected for the England Team
- 14th
May 2005
I received conformation today that I have been selected for the England
Alpine Ski Team. It was a great relief because this was a big decider as to how much
skiing I would do next year. I hope to do my country proud!
Sponsorship Deal from Volkl - 18th
April 2005
Impressed by Franki's performance this winter, Volkl are sponsoring Franki
for the coming season. Being able to afford the right equipment on which to race and train
will make a huge difference to Franki's ability to fulfil her potential as she moves up into FIS racing.
Franki's Teamate and good friend TJ Baldwin is also sponsored by Volkl.
Good Start to the Dry Slope
Season - 18th April 2005
Despite being 'banned" from skiing, and all other sport, whilst her back
recovers from the injury at the British Childrens races the week before, Franki somehow
managed to persuade Mum to let her make a last minute entry for the first L&SERSA
regional race of the season this weekend. Despite no practice sessions, and having not
been near plastic for over 6 months, Franki cruised to victory with a time 6% faster than
her nearest female competition, and was less than 8% off the winning time of Marc Telling.
Mum has now confiscated the skis and Franki will definitely be focussing 100% on recovery
with a view to returning to plastic in June.
