THIS WEBSITE IS STILL BEING DEVELOPED.
I am continually seeking more information to help owners and sailors of Skipper 17, Mariner 17 and Eagle 525 boats.
If you have information to offer, or any feedback, corrections or criticism, please let me know by emailing me at the address below with the single word skipper as the subject .
To avoid any doubt, you must type skipper (and nothing else) in the ‘Subject’ line of Outlook Express, otherwise the Tiscali server will automatically reject your email as spam. My address is meopham@tiscali.co.uk .
Particularly needed:
Original instruction books and leaflets for the Sk17 or Ea525, particularly if the publication dates are known.
Better quality copies of publications that I have already put on this website.
Boat tests that are not subject to copyright.
Technical information such as sail dimensions etc.
Personal experiences, stories, modifications etc.
Action photographs (that is, while sailing).
Open letter to all Skipper 17 and Eagle 525 Sailors
SKIPPER 17 and EAGLE 525 OWNERS' NATIONAL RALLY
2008 Sept 6 - 7: Rutland Water
Owners and crew are cordially invited to bring their boats to this rally in beautiful surroundings, organised by the Dinghy Cruising Association, East Coast Group (Rally Secretary Dave Jennings).
The rally has a particular focus on the Skipper 17 and Eagle 525, although all types of dinghy are welcome.
Membership of the DCA costs £21 - this will of course give a year's full benefits of the Association (see http://www.dca.uk.com/members.htm).
Numbers may have to be limited if demand is high, so please get your applications in early.
Cost
The Rutland Sailing Club (www.rutlandsc.co.uk) collects the following charges giving temporary membership so we can use the changing rooms, bar and so on. The club has several slipways all of which are concrete and fairly gentle slopes so it is quite a civilised way of going sailing. There will be a group discount on these prices if we get enough boats.
Dinghy - £17 per day or £26.50 for the weekend
Dayboat / Keelboat - £19 per day or £31.50 for the weekend
Cruiser - £21 per day or £37 for the weekend
Not sure what the S17 would be classed as (we could try claiming that it is a dinghy with a lid but I doubt it will wash!), one of the latter two categories probably.
It is cheaper to launch at Rutland Watersports at Whitwell (http://www.anglianwaterleisure.co.uk) but there is only one slip, albeit a good one.
Accommodation
Sleeping on board is not allowed, but Rutland Water Camp Site (http://www.rutlandwatercampsite.co.uk) is directly opposite the entrance to Rutland Sailing Club - contact Nick Makey on 07875 479533.
Camping is also available at Whitwell - Rally Secretary Dave Jennings has the information if anyone is interested - contact details for Dave are in the DCA literature.
It is also possible to book accommodation in the sailing club - details via Rutland Sailing Club website or phone 01780 720292.
