Getting Started
When you first try your sling choose a time when your child is happy, well rested and fed.
Move around as soon as you put your child in the sling, the movement will help them to stay calm and adjust to their new mode of transport.
Most of all be patient, if your baby doesn’t take to it straight away, leave it for another time or day. Try it round the house, quick walk round the block, till you both gain confidence.
How to put on your Sleepytoes sling

| Open your sling to match the picture above. Your sling can be worn on either shoulder, if you’re right handed you’ll be putting your left arm through the sling to wear your baby on your left side and vice versa (or whichever side feel most comfortable). |
Put your arm through the sling with the single edge towards you. |

| Pull the sling over your head and onto your shoulder, the curved seam should be down by your hip. The opening should now be at the top. |
Make sure that the fabric is spread out across your back and shoulder, this allows for the weight to be spread evenly. Separate the two fabric layers near the hip, this is the pouch where the baby will rest. |

| Lift baby up against your shoulder, and place baby into pouch feet first. |
Carrying positions
· Cradle Carry (Newborn - 6 months)



Pouch seam should be somewhere in between your hip and tummy button. Baby's bottom will sit on the seam. Slide baby in feet first, between the two layers of fabric evenly distributing the fabric. Your baby's head should be in the pouch near your chest, and body supported by the fabric. Your baby may seem squished, but this is the correct and most comfortable position for your child. Practice makes perfect for both of you, you'll love being close together.

Breastfeeding
To breastfeed in the cradle carry, lower the layer of fabric closest to your body. Alternatively place the baby in the opposite way, with head nearest the pouch seam.

This position is great for babies who like to be held upright. The pouch seam should be in the middle, in line with your tummy button. Hold your baby against your shoulder then slide them into the pouch, baby's bottom in the middle of the seam. You can either tuck baby's feet in the fabric (some baby's will naturally cross their feet), alternatively spread the fabric layers tucking a layer under the baby's bottom up to the knee, and pull the outer layer up the baby's back, can be pulled to the top of the head for baby's with less head control.
· Buddha Carry (3-6 months)



Good position when your baby is a little older and more curious about the world. The seam should be in the middle again. Hold baby facing out and slide baby in between the layers of fabric feet first in a seated position. Pull the fabric up to their chest, and make sure that the fabric is pulled up behind their back.
· Hip Carry (for babies with head control 6 months+)

The most natural way to carry your older child, the exception being that all their weight is taken across your shoulder and back instead of your arm. Place seam to your side near your hip, your child's bottom should be in the middle of the seam. Lift your child against your shoulder and lift down in to the pouch spreading the layers of fabric, placing their bottom into the pouch. Pull a layer under the bottom up behind the knee, and a layer up over their back (this layer can always be pulled over the head if your child falls asleep). Baby's legs should be parallel to the floor, their bottom at the same level or lower than their knees, this ensures the weight is evenly distributed, and does not cause red marks.
Safety
Warning: Positional asphyxia (suffocation) can occur in young babies. This can happen when a baby's chin is pressed against his or her chest, restricting airflow. Check to ensure that baby's airway is unobstructed and that baby is breathing regularly at all times, especially when sleeping.
Always check your sling before each use, check that the seams and fabric are in good condition. Please use common sense when using your sling, ensure that your baby is safe and secure. Sleepytoes cannot accept responsibility for injury resulting from accidents occuring whilst using the sling. Be sensible, do not use while cooking or near open flames as some fabrics may be flammable.
