The Harrier was the world's first vertical take off and landing aircraft. The Harrier has under gone several upgrades to
improve the weapon laod and range. The Harrier's unique advantage is that as it can take off vertically it can use car parks, short streches of road or a clearing as a runway. this enables it to be positioned close the battle field so that it doesn't take long to make a round trip and return to rearm. A variant of the Harrier is used by the Royal Navy on British Aircraft Carriers, the variant is known as the Sea Harrier.
