Message from ALL of us

2003 has seen huge changes and challenges for those initially involved in the Slow Food Convivium; many starting new careers, expanding existing businesses, looking for new challenges at home & abroad and stepping up a gear in chosen careers. As a result many of the planned events never came to fruition. Despite this there were several other successful events including a Cheese & Wine evening at the Woodend Barn, Banchory in April and with our thanks to the Aberdeen Environmental Forum, there was another hugely successful Slow Food Harvest Supper in October.

Elsewhere another Convivium came into being in Highland & Moray championed by the team at Boath House. It is hoped that this will give us the opportunity to develop greater links and joint events.

Should any of the other Scottish Convivia in need of web access like to piggy back on this site, please get in touch with Tim & Jane Summmers, who would be delighted to add extra pages, highlight events or set up links to other Convivia in Scotland.

In the meantime, energy and ideas are much needed to drive things forward. Please get in touch if you are running an event that you'd like us to promote or if you have any ideas for Sow Food Events!

Who are we?

A Slow Food taster night led by Val Buchanan (Banff & Buchan Convivium) was held at the Woodend Barn Arts Centre, Banchory in June 2002. The response was overwhelming and it became clear that a small group of like minded enthusiasts was emerging, enough to take forward the idea of an Aberdeenshire Convivium. An inaugural meeting was held in September and a committee established to organise events and to spread the word. At the heart of the Convivium is a small committee of professionals (from food to software), producers, retailers, caterers, mothers and foodies all with a passion for Slow food and desire to get as many people as possible thinking 'slow'. To date we have a database of over 100 people from all areas and walks of life, all who are interested in the Convivium and in the international movement in general. We hope to involve more and more people with ideas for events, promotions etc., so please contact us!
