Nelly Stharre

Nelly Stharre - Rain Jah - Calabash Heights - CD.

In the early eighties, in the UK, Jah Shaka began to record a number of female singers in a roots style. The reasoning was simple this vocal style had been accepted within a lovers rock format, it should work with roots, and it did. Sister Audrey 'English Girl' perhaps being the best example. Nelly's style is similar although she also sings in French, as well as English. The album was recorded in Jamaica with musicians like Chinna, and works very well within that type of setting. Her songwriting is of a high standard, in all a very interesting work.
