20 Crucial Cuts From The Vaults Of Black Roots
Easy Star Records
Twenty years after Sugar Minott broke into the reggae charts, with a string of albums and singles from producers like Studio One and King Jammys Sugar launched the Youth Promotion/Black Roots Organisation. Operating out of Kingston, London, and New York it quickly became a magnet for all the young talent in the business at the time.
Not long after major artists also joined the label, and for about five years the Youth Promotion label was a major rival to producers like Henry Junjo Lawes, George Phang and Jammys.
Now Easy Star Records in the States have gone back to these early YP session and have come up with an incredible selection of music from artists like Barrington Levy, Barry Brown, Horace Andy, Nitty Gritty. Tony Tuff, Lloyd Hemmings, Trevor Hartley, Garnett Silk, Junior Reid, Junior Delgado, Triston Palmer, Tenor Saw, Echo Minott, Branches, Micheal Palmer, Ranking Joe, Casseyman, Don Angelo, Yami Bolo, The African Brothers and Sugar Minott himself. Out of the 20 tracks 9 are previously unreleased.
