National Scooter Rally/YSA Rideout
Four scoots went off midday
Friday to set up camp at the Rally campsite on Guisborough Road.Me, Andy
T, Andy M and Macca. We stopped for tea at the Highwayman A64 to pick up
Wayne Lowery and Vespa John. Quite a few scoots were already gathered
here for the big push to Whitby, via Pickering's petrol stations Despite
a fine drizzle, it was a good ride over the Moors with no one lost and
no breakdowns. Set up camp and were joined by Barry, Debbie, Dave and
Angie at teatime. Toured the pubs of Whitby Friday night along with the
many other scooter clubs that were already packing the streets of the
town. Finished off at the Pavilion before heading home 1.00ish with a
sore head. Saturday morning brought warm sunshine and Andy Tucker, Andy
Moughan, Macca and myself went for a good old fryup near the harbour. By
the time we got back, the rest of the club began to arrive on a nearly
full campsite. The days events included a visit to the parts fair and
custom show in which our Andy Mitchell's Indeed I Do GP was entered. A
few of us went on the rideout to Goathland. A great little run to the
Aidenfield Arms, despite passing Cookie broken down along with Scooter
Stu, Ingy and Mivi along the way. After the rideout it was back to the
parts fair before heading to the YSA event at the Stakesby Arms. The
weather was hot and the beer did flow. By the way, I have still got some
free burger vouchers along with Andy Mitch's, if you want them. After a
couple of hours it was back to the campsite for a BBQ, kindly organised
by Angela and I did the honours at the grill. Red wine went down quickly
and I along with other silly buggers made fools of ourselves on the
improvised dancefloor in the Gazebo. Once again it was into town for
more drinking before heading back to the Pavilion for the night event.
Sunday we awoke early, packed up, had another greasy fryup in Whitby,
picked up our tents and headed back over the moors towards Pickering
with lots of other scooterists also heading home. A fairly uneventful
ride home, with only Mivi having a little problem traversing Saltergate
bank. A really good weekend was had by all, with lots of warm sunshine.
Over 30 SMTSC members were present at Whitby over the whole weekend. If
we could just have eradicated the foghorn that was active thru the night
next to our tent everything would have been just perfect.
