Llandudno
25/26th March 2006
VFM Pre Season Scooter Rally
First long distance ride of the
season saw 11 scoots assemble in the damp in Selby market place. 7 am
saw us set off for the 150 miles or so to Llandudno all by A road. The
rain held off but there was a fiercesome headwind all the way across the
unbelievably bleak Woodhead pass in the peak district. Manchester by
contrast was sunny, good job as we got lost negotiating the A560 which
meant frequently checking the map and route planner. Both of which Barry
had left in McDonalds some 20 miles before. Still we made it and
attracted the waves and whistles from some well tidy young hairdressers.
Barry provided further amusement by allowing his scorpion to burn holes
in his rear tyre. Made Llandudno ok. Craig had picked a really good
hotel though we had to park in the builders yard masquerading as a car
park. VFM custom show/trade fair and night do were nothing worth writing
about. We had a good time in the town, meal at a Cafe Bar and Bob found
a pub selling beer at £1.35 a pint. Sunday morning saw us set off for
home again and then the fun and games started. We lost Derek, Kelvin,
Ingy and Mivi before leaving Llandudno. Manchester road signage is a
joke and we soon lost Big Pete in Wythenshawe, Bob F, Craig and Cookie
in Hansford. We all made it home between 3 and 5 pm Sunday.
Commiserations to the last three who finally pulled in at 5 after
hitting a rainstorm en route.
