Moorends
to Selby May 14 2006
YSA Rideout
After nearly ten months of planning,
the day arrived for the YSA Moorends to Selby Rideout. As early as six
oclock in the morning, final preparations were being made for the event.
At 9.30am, members of the Selby club began to arrive for bacon butties
and photos at the Olympia Hotel. By 10.45am twenty six members and their
scoots left the pub bound for the Moorends Hotel. Behind them they left
their wives, girlfriends and partners to prepare for the days
activities. The cold drizzle that had started at Selby fizzled out by
the time we got to Moorends and the MADSC were there to greet us and
usher us into an area next to the Pub. Over the next hour an a half,
over 300 scooters from as far as Whitby descended around the Moorends
Hotel and were refuelled with hot and cold drinks and bacon sarnies.
Some nice scooters such as Fairground Attraction were there. At 100pm
the Rideout began, led out by the YSA Marshalls of both Clubs. Moorends
village has not witnessed a spectacular site as this for quite some
time. Off they sped on the 17.3 miles route, north through South
Yorkshire and into East Yorkshire. At Snaith the SMTSC took over from
the MADSC leaders and led the procession over the River Aire into North
Yorkshire. Thru Carlton and Camblesforth they continued, guided by the
Selby lads all the way to Brayton and to the main street of Gowthorpe in
Selby. Once passing the Abbey, they proceeded over the old Tollbridge
before coming to the end of the Rideout at the Olympia Hotel. Puftermonk
were there to entertain the troops with live music, whilst the ladies of
the SMTSC kept us fed with hot dogs, pies, pizzas and cakes. A brilliant
Hogroast, several scooter stalls, a raffle and scooter tunes kept
everyone entertained, whilst the hotel bar staff worked hard to keep up
with the thirsty crowds around the Olympia. All in all a successful day,
good marshalling, a nice easy route and lots of good facilities at
either end of the rideout. Things must of been good, because even Kev
Walsh and Whitey from Kiaserchiefs were there. The hard work and
planning by all the members of MADSC and SMTSC paid off to make this an
enjoyable day, despite the weather.
