LCGB Signing on event
Kelvin, Stu, PC Pete and Graham
Wallace from the Inset set off early doors to ride up to Robin Hood's
Bay for the start of the event. The route took us through the N Yorks
moors out through Wensleydale then into the Lake District. The more
intrepid riders got to try their hands at the Hardknott and Wrynose
mountain passes. Apart from a foggy start on the ride up, the weather
was perfect, the scenery spectacular. We lost Pete in the 5 miles
leading up to the Ferry across Lake Windermere. Crossed the lake and
found the only sour point of the event, after 6 hours
riding the scheduled lunch stop was at a place that didn't serve food
resulting in a 20 min detour to find any place open. A misunderstanding
at Coniston saw Kelvin take the long way round to St Bees while Stu
braved the mountain passes. Both still made it to St Bees for 6pm, 8 hrs
to cover about 300 miles. Stu promptly then headed home again finally
getting there at midnight, after 18hrs in the saddle. Kelvin stopped
overnight with the Inset, Pete reappeared at some point too. Ride home
next day was a bit damp but all enjoyed the experience
