An important opportunity to hear more about Local Development Frameworks. (LDFs)
Saturday 20th September 2008 2.30pm
at The Village Hall, Long Sutton.
The meeting will be preceded by a short AGM of the CPRE South Somerset District Group
The formal part of the meeting should not last long. What follows should be of great interest to everyone interested in the work of CPRE. As you will doubtless know, all planning matters are settled according to the interpretion by officers and councillors of the Local Plan; and there is one for every planning authority (eg District Council). "The Local Plan has had to take account of policies in the County Structure Plan (eg forecast requirements for new housing). All that is changing. The Structure Plans will go, to be replaced by one overriding Regional Spatial Strategy (in our case the South West RSS). Local Plans are to be replaced by Local Development Frameworks (LDFs).
Our principle concern has been the predicted net inward migration into the District and consequential demand for new housing. The draft RSS suggested 13,600 new dwellings, mainly in and around Yeovil, in the 20 years 2006-2026 but the Government panel which reviewed matters considered this should be upped to 19,700. That's close on 1,000 new homes every year! Where do they go without wrecking the environment? To find out what SSDC is thinking, come to the meeting because we have been lucky in getting Mr Philip Higginbottom to agree to join us. He is Planning Policy Leader and will talk about the LDF and answer questions. This really is an exceptional opportunity for CPRE members and guests to learn at first hand what's going on. Your Committee urges you to attend if you possibly can. .
