Merlin

Ray attribution:- The Elohim of the Second Blue Ray of "Love Wisdom"; which is the "expression and embodiment of the soul, the heart aspect of Deity." (1) It is to " hold the souls of Humanity in Brotherhood and Understanding and to flood the consciousness with the wisdom and love of Deity, so that the heart and mind of Humanity may learn to function as one perfect whole, and so move onwards on the path which leads to Unity." (1) . The planetary attribution of the Second Ray is the planet Jupiter and so its day of enhancement is Thursday.

Historical & Mythical:-Merlin is the prophetic title, meaning "Seer to the King", which belonged to Emrys Ambrosius of Dinas Emrys, in the valley of Neint Gwynant, near Beddgelert, Wales (16). Geoffrey of Monmouth's "Historia Regnum Brittani- ae" gives Myrddin (Merlin) as being the chief advisor to King Guenddolau, who was killed at the battle of Arfderydd by King Rydderch Hael. Myrddin's subsequent madness led him to retreat into the Caledonian forest, where he received visions as a primal prophet (14). The book "Vita Merlini" (Life of Merlin), also by Monmouth, states that Myrddin later built an observatory with seventy windows in order to prophesy from the stars. With the help of his twin sister Gwenddydd (pronounced Gwyneth) whose name is also connected to Venus or Ganeida, Merlin wrote "The Prophecies of Britain." The wealth of story surrounding Myrddin, however, is very encompassing i.e. Mallory's ac- count of the birth and king-making of Arthur, and of the building and collapse of King Vortigern's Tower, by the Dragons of Albion. It is this story that has been used to give Wales its Red Dragon national emblem.

Myrddin was also reputed to have built Stonehenge by performing the "Giants Dance", whereby the stones were magically transferred from Ireland to Salisbury Plain in England. This myth also relates to Myrddin's Druidic training in Ireland, which traditonally lasted for a 19 year Metonic cycle, i.e. the time taken for the pattern of the stars to orbit and return to the same place in the night sky. The Hyperborean Apollo (Sun Deity) was said to appear at the end of every 19 year star cycle within the stone temple of Stonehenge. (15)

Merlin Returns

From out of the past,

My time comes again.

To share the dream,

Of chaos held at bay.

Not yet,

But soon,

The Crystal Cave will be uncovered.

The Dragon's breath be seen.

The Magic shall stir once more,

In the hearts of those whose share the dream,

To gather at my table round.

From memory: Myrddin is born Merfyn, one of the recorded sons of Brychan Brycheiniog. Around 460 A.D., Merfyn is sent to be fostered by Ceridwen, as was Gwion. As a small child, Merfyn wanders to the nearby fort of Dinas Emrys, where King Vortigern is attempting to build a tower as a stronghold. Because the fortress tower fails to be stable and the foundations keep collapsing, the boy Merfyn is abducted to be used as a blood sacrifice in order to secure the foundations. (In ancient times, it was thought that to bury a living sacrifice would make a building se- cure, but the sacrifice was usually a small animal. It was decided that a stronger magic was required to secure such an important structure belonging to a king and so the child would be used instead).

Merfyn's life is thus in mortal danger. His foster-mother Ceridwen sees this by her second sight and rushes to the spot. Ceridwen explains to Vortigern that dragons live beneath the hill, that it is they who are preventing the building from being completed; and she takes the boy Merfyn safely home. When Brychan hears about Vortigern's threat to his son's life, he usurps King Vortigern with the aid of Ambrosius.

Meanwhile the Druid priestess Ceridwen performs a magic ritual to invoke a storm. Vortigern's Tower, Vortigern himself and all his men are struck by lightning and are burned to death.

At around 15 years old, Merfyn travels to his father's homeland of Ireland to commence his own training as a Druid, which takes place during the 19-year period. When he finishes this period of study, he then returns to claim his title as Myrddin or Merlin ("The Seer" to the King). This he does at Stonehenge, where he invokes himself as the Deity Mabon (Hyperborean Apollo), thus establishing himself as an archetype of the land for all time.

Myrddin travels throughout the land first as a cartographer or mapmaker, a task undertaken only by those with arcane knowledge of mathematics and earth energies. He decides to explore Ptolemy's territory around the River Belisama (Ribble, in the North of England). Myrddin sees a vision upon Pendle Hill (now Lancs/ Yorks border), concerning The Dragons of Albion, previously awoken from this place by the leader of the Setantii tribe, Setanta Bic or Cuchulain. The prophecy of the coming invasions of the Isles of Britain is revealed to him and that he must unite the Kingdoms of Albion under one leader. He is shown that the dynastic line of this leader must not only be of Avalon, but also of the Pendragon Lineage.

Myrddin attends the betrothal of Ygerne to the Duke Gorlois, and later talks to her concerning her family's lineage. Morgaine (Morgan), being the daughter of Taliesin, is taken by Myrddin to the Priestess Isle of Inis Witrin (The Isle of Glass or Avalon) at Glastonbury, for her training in magic.

He later contrives a liaison between Ygerne and Merchion of Meirionydd who, being of the Race of Cunedda, is of the Pendragon Lineage. Their son, later named Cadwaladyr (meaning "Battle Leader"), is taken by Myrddin to be educated in Amorica (Brittany in France) until his coming of age.

Myrddin returns to South Rheged with the boy, a message having arranged his return, sent by Taliesin to the Court of Elidyr through the Queen Gwawr in the walled City of Deva (Chester). He then sets out to manifest his vision to unify the Tribes of Albion (Britain) under the symbol of The Dragon. The leaders of the tribes and the kings of all the realms of Albion arrive at the Court of Elydir for discussion, but their Bards now begin to squabble for supremacy and all order breaks down. Taliesin arrives along with the High Priestess Viviane and silences the Bards by performing a sarcastic epic poem called: "The Contention of the Bards."

Myrddin now begins to prophecy to the Court that a Dragon- King will appear to unify the tribes and kings of Albion against the invading Saxons. He calls for another gathering at the Stone Circle at Avebury (now Wiltshire), where The Dragon-King is to appear.

While the tribes and clans, dukes and kings of all The Hyperborean Isles are gathering within the enormous stone ring of Avebury, Cadwaladyr has been set to keep vigil at the nearby White Horse (now on Uffington Hill in Oxfordshire). He keeps vigil throughout the night until just before dawn. An "apparition" now appears before him, of a Lady upon a white palfrey, who carries with her a gleaming Sword. It is Morgaine (Morgan) who stands before him with her "faery enchantment" in the guise of The Goddess. She presents the Holy Sword to Cadwaladyr and then calls upon him to swear a Sacred Oath to serve the Celtic tribes and clans under The Goddess and The Dragons of Albion. Cadwaladyr consents and lies with Morgaine in order to consecrate The Sacred Marriage (Heiros Gamos). The son later born to Morgaine, through her half brother Cadwaladyr, is Medraut; also known as Mordred.

After their liaison, Morgaine hands the reins of the white palfrey to Cadwaladyr and he rides, along an ancient downland trackway, called The Ridgeway, down to Avebury. Eventually he arrives and enters the gathering of the tribes and kings of the realms in the stone circle of Avebury, bearing his Holy Sword, Excalibur. He is there proclaimed by all present as High King of the Realms of Albion.
