These grading days are where both Junior and Senior Mayo Shin Do practitioners have a chance to 'Grade' to their next belt. Not all students grade, but they are made aware by their instructor when it is close to their time for grading to a higher belt. Presentation of the Belts... These Cornwall area grading days are normally held on a saturday in Spring, Summer and Autumn. The juniors are graded in the morning and the seniors are graded in the afternoon. There is a presentation after the grading session whereby each graded student is presented with her/his belt. Cornwall Area Karateka of the Year Ceremony... Every January there is a presentation to selected students who have exelled in a specific area of their training. This presentation normally takes place after a Friday class in January and selected students are awarded trophies for their exelled area of training. National Awards... There are also national awards that are presented to selected Mayo Shin Do instructors from around the country. These national awards are presented by our National Coach and Head of the Mayo Shin Do Association; Derek Collins from Wiltshire. Annual Black Belt Grading... The Mayo Shin Do National Black Belt Grading Event is held over two days in Sennen, Cornwall, every spring. This is when practitioners from Cornwall and from Mayo Shin Do clubs all over the country come to Sennen to attempt to grade to Black Belt, or to a 'Dan' grade. This is the time when all students young or old get a rare chance to train with their national coach, Derek Collins. Holdsworthy Karate Weekend... Once a year, the Mayo Shin Do National coach organises a weekend Karate training session at a beautiful rural location in Holdsworthy, North Devon. This is a chance for Mayo Shin Do Practitioners from all over the country to meet, eat, socialize and train together. Beautiful food is on the menu, as well as a rare afternoon archery session and of course the awesome Derek Collins (National Coach) 'Masterclass'. Ask your instructor for details. Next Events...
