What is Mayo Shin Do?...

May Shin Do Philosophy...
Mayo Shin Do is a style of karate that relies upon speed, accuracy, balance and focus, rather than just force - control rather than aggression...

Instructors Demonstrate Mayo Shin Do Karate at Sennen Club in Cornwall

It is a style of martial art that incorporates natural and economic movement, balance, control and focus of power...

Consider this...

• Avoid conflict - be aware
• Think before you act
• Act decisively
• Do not use opposing force
• Use minimum force necessary

Breathing is kept as natural as possible. There is no forced breathing or shouting. There is no special hardening of fists, feet, or breaking, as this can lead to physical troubles such as arthritis in later life.

The idea of the Mayo Shin Do style of karate was that it would be a language and movement for people 'here and now'. All commands are in English - movement is natural, economical and relaxed.

Mayo Shin Do is a safe system to learn and an effective one to use.

When training together we are trying to improve our moves. A general rule is : do it better, then faster, then harder. No posing allowed! Relax into effort. Train your spirit. Any paired up work is done in co-operation, not in competition. The bowing that we do is to show respect for each other and for what we are doing.

• Avoid conflict - assess, plan, talk, control
• If attacked - avoid, block, ride
• Do not use opposing force
• Use the minimum effort for the desired effect
• Cause minimum injury for the desired effect

These are all points we consider when training. We emphasise the need for control in our daily life as well as in our techniqes.

Just train, rewards come slowly. Strive to improve your skill, fitness, movement, co-ordination, control and effectiveness. Gain confidence in 'tricky situations'. Work hard but have fun. Add a new dimension to your life!
