Registered Charity No 1108814

Last year we announced our nest box sponsorship scheme and for the 2008 season were were able to place boxes in various locations - almost all of the commons in Southrepps.
We are pleased to report a reasonably successful first year, with five of them definitely used, and we have suspicions that a few others may have been. Certainly a number attracted the attentions of a woodpecker in attempting to enlarge entrance holes!
Birds known to have been raised in our boxes in 2008 are Blue and Great Tits, with the possibility that Collared Doves also bred in one intended for an Owl!
We are very grateful to the people who have sponsored these boxes for 2008/9 and we will be keeping you informed of any breeding activity by email. Summarised information will also be put on the website and the noticeboard.
Sponsorship lasts for two years, with the fee for a small box being £2, a medium box £3 and a large box £5. We will be seeking new sponsors, particularly for small boxes, during the autumn of 2008.

Birds seen on Southrepps Commons
If you are lucky enough to find any interesting birds not on this list, an email to Duncan Westlake at birdsightings@tiscali.co.uk would be greatly appreciated. The dates below represent the time of "latest spot".
Please go to http://www.rspb.org/birds/guide/index.asp. for more detailed information on any of these birds.
The Southrepps Golden Oriole
There was some excitement during May 2008 when one of our members identified the call of a Golden Oriole among the Poplar trees bordering School Common. Not commonly seen in these parts it is thought it was probably just passing through. Although the bird was unseen and therefore not photographed, an audio recording was made. This has been accepted as proof positive by the Norfolk County Bird Recorders. For a second opinion just ask the local pheasant who manages to get in the act about half way through.
