Welcome to the 'On Call Clergy' (UK) web site.

UK Registered Charity No.1117867

web site last updated 29.01.2010

What is 'On Call'?

What does it do?

Who does it benefit?

Our volunteer clergy (both men and women), ministry support team members, supporters and friends, are drawn from many traditions, both Protestant and Catholic, and work together in supportive Christian Ministry under a strict code of practice as a united and highly professional body.

This great diversity of Christian experience and understanding is one of the Order's unique strengths, enabling us to work where ever we are needed, within and beyond traditional denominational boundaries, in the UK and abroad. OCC is registered with the COI as a NGO service provider.

The Order's ministry of serving Christ by serving the community is aimed at all in need, regardless of their personal or social circumstances, faith background or ethnic origins.

We take Christ out into the community,

We take faith and action where it is needed.

Will you?

The Order is not a church or a denomination but is a Christian community working out in the community for the community.

Our focus is not on maintaining buildings or funding organizational structures but on effective and open Christian ministry.

Our volunteer members are 'On Call' to serve wherever, whenever needed by individuals, groups, organizations, Christian communities and churches of all denominations by request.

The Order is unconditionally non-denominational in its ministry and theological outlook, and its rule, general guidelines and principles and day to day operation reflect this.

We treat all as if they were Christ himself,

We respond as Christ himself would respond.

Can you?

The Order actively encourages the exploration of Christian faith and Christian action.

Faith without action has no substance (James 2 v 26 '...faith is lifeless if it doesn't lead to actions' as translated by Nick King SJ).

For our members,

faith and action go hand in hand.

Despite it's limited resources, the Order, as a registered charity, seeks in addition to it's Christian ministry in the community to unconditionally assist people who are the victims of violence, war, natural disaster or poverty in the UK and in the wider world.

the Rule of Simplicity

The Rule of Simplicity is the Order's handbook and outlines the basic theology and principles behind the Order's day to day operation. The Rule is about living out the Gospel and responding to need within the community with action and love. Based on Christian service on God's terms, 24-7 not 9 to 5, it is not easy or comfortable reading in the responses and commitments it asks each reader to make, but it is the basic outward expression of membership of the Order allied with a living faith.

Pastor Patrick - a request for prayers and assistance update

A small number of members of the Order contributed £250 .00 towards Pastor Patrick's medical expenses for his baby son who has been in intensive care. Although many members of the Order will be focused on the current emergency in Haiti, members are still prayerfully encouraged to assist Pastor Patrick if they are able. Not only do we need to look after the poor, sick and needy of the world, but also our own.

Komatilanka Fishermen Project, India

Greetings from India.

I am indeed happy to inform you that the Komatilanka Fishermen Project was launched and the individual units were grounded to day, i.e., on 4 th November 2009. The poor fishermen are so happy to own the boat and net. I could not participate but my Suffragan, the Diocesan Secretary, Diocesan Treasurer and a Trustee have gone to the Island along with the Village Secretary ( of the District Administration )and implemented the project. The local Administrator of the World Vision has witnessed the occasion.

The Village Panchayat President, Vice President and the Head Mistress of the School have participated. The beneficiaries have thanked the OOCC for your generousness for assisting them. They are so very happy..

Summary of the Order's AGM, 1st November, 2009.

+Michael has now retired as the Executive Bishop/president of the Order although he will still remain a member of the Order's Executive Council and will still be active as a member as Episcopi Emeritus.

+Michael retains his position as the Chairman of the Charity.

Following the Order's AGM, +Ian will now head the Order with the guidance and support of the Executive Council which includes two new members, Rev Diane Hunter and Rev Geoffrey Robinson, both of whom are warmly welcomed.

Rev Geoffrey Robinson was asked to act as the Order's spiritual advisor by +Michael prior to his retirement from office.

Although Rev Geoffrey Robinson's duties are to be defined more fully by +Ian, they will include preparing a prayer calendar for members and the offering/organizing of training materials/sessions as appropriately requested by either +Ian or by the Executive.

Recommendations by Rev John Lycett and Rev Geoffrey Robinson were accepted at the Order's AGM for trialing service registers over the next twelve months. Rev John Lycett has been asked to act as the Order's archivist and registrar of services and has accepted this new role.

In the creation of new roles within the Order, it should be remembered that under the Order's Rule, all members are given equal recognition and that roles do not carry official titles or hierarchical position.

Thanks to all members who attended the AGM and to Rev Diane Hunter for celebrating Communion, but especially to +Michael for his service to the Order.

The Executive will start a series of meetings starting January 2010, beginning a review of the Order. A copy of the proposed areas for review can be found in the members secure area, but all members are welcome to add their suggestions.
