admin 3 - the Rule of Simplicity

page last updated 24.09.2009

The Rule of Simplicity is the Order's handbook and covers everything from the founding theological principles to the day to day workings practices of its priests. It is not a long document and mostly deals with principles rather than canon. It is flexible rather than rigid and hopefully allows the Holy Spirit to guide the actions of each member rather than dictate with rules and church canon as created by man.

The Rule is the expression and interpretation on which all ministry within the Order is founded.

Anyone seeking membership should be aware that the Order accepts the ministry of both men and women and will ordain both men and women if vocation is discerned.

Those who do not accept the ordination of women as valid should reconsider any application for membership to the Order.

For information:

(a) the ordination of priests by the Order is specifically to non-denominational ministry and comes through the Old Catholic lines of succession,

(b) by right of history and tradition not all main stream denominations are in communion with the Old Catholic Church and may not accept as valid the Holy Orders granted by the Order. However, the Order works on the basis of calling, vocation and validation of ministry by the Holy Spirit as being the primary grounds for the acceptance of any ministry within the world wide church rather than any man made rubrics.

Those seeking ordination should be aware of this but not let this deter them from applying.
