our members
will be glad to assist you in any way they can:
they are 'on call'
If you have a need
then the first thing to do is contact
a priest or minister from the Order of On Call Clergy
and talk to them. You will find them both supportive, sympathetic and
professional. Above all, they will be honest and treat you with
respect and courtesy. If they feel that someone else within the Order
(or elsewhere) is better qualified to deal with a particular need,
they will say so and refer you that person or organisation if it is
your wish.
Many enquiries
(but not all) are easily dealt with and generally fall within the
following or similar areas:-
|
(1) baptism, |
(4) home communion/mass, |
|
(2) wedding blessing, |
(5) reconciliation, |
|
(3) funeral services, |
(6) some one to talk confidentially to |
Where these kind
of services or others not listed are required, an On Call priest will
be more than happy to discuss your needs with you and will respond
without any form of denominational bias. Members are there to serve,
not to recruit for their sponsdoring denomination.
They will listen
to your ideas and then offer suggestions and guidance as to those
things that are required in any service or liturgy, and those things
that may be changed, added to or taken out.
Most have a vast
wealth of experience that they can draw from and will aim to meet
your needs as fully as possible. All you have to do is ask.
Because the Order
of On Call Clergy is independent, priests are authorised to draw from
a great many sources and liturgical styles. If you would like a
formal traditional catholic liturgy or just 'plain and simple', it
shouldn't be a problem. If your On Call priest doesn't feel they can
deliver your needs he or she will be able to contact other On Call
priests. All On Call priests have the right to pass work on if they
feel that they cannot give 100% support to any requests made.
Although most of
the work On Call is not charged for, some costs do apply. On Call
priests are self supporting but, generally speaking, the only things
you would be expected to contribute towards would be:
(1) a wedding
blessing or renewal of wedding vows,
(2) a funeral
(although this is usually covered in the funeral director's fees),
(3) and reasonable
travelling expenses and other expenses if agreed before hand.
These enable On
Call priests to continue in the work they do and also help enable
further training.
If there is
genuine financial hardship please speak to the On Call priest you are
dealing with. |
