The Gospel
Believers Children's Centre, Kibera Slum, Niarobi, Kenya. |
Pastor Patrick Kimawachi writes:-
These are the community project
that are most demanding. It has always been our prayers that we shall
be able to get people who may stand with us in prayer and help us in
any other way they can
We are real in need and we need
prayers. We believe prayer opens doors, strengthens and encourages
where we feel discouraged, and any funds we receive helps us
accomplish the goals we have set. We accept any kind of help whether
in the form of prayer, materials ,personnel or financial assistance.
We are involved in several
projects. At the moment I will request for prayers for these two projects.
1. The
Orphanage and the School (the Children's ministry).
We have 49 children living in the
Orphanage in small rooms in the slum. These are children without home
because they are either orphaned by HIV/AIDS or they are from the
street driven there for one reason or another. These children have no
other home but this home. We are doing al that we can to give them
shelter, food, clothing, education, medical-care and above all the
parental love that they need most.
They rooms are full to capacity we
can no more admit more children though there is a great need. We need
to expand the facility.
2. The School.
Apart from the Orphanage, we have
another 138 children that come to the informal school we started to
help the children from this community. In Kenya education is free
though this has not been possible to so many needy families who
cannot afford the School Uniform and any other little levies. We felt
there was a need to help the community and therefore we started this
school in the church. These children come to school without eating,
because many families do cannot afford a meal. We therefore felt
there is a need to feed these children at least two meals a day with
good food.
3. The Teachers.
We have 4 teachers that we pray
that they get paid for the great effort they have made to teach these
children. Because they are volunteers they do not always stay very
long, often leaving for paid employment. This has made us change
teachers from time to time

Mourine Nxxxxxx
is 9 years old. She a child of a mother who did not get married. At
the age of 4 her mother passed a way leaving Mourine in the hands of
her relatives who had promised to take care of her. Though in
difficulty themselves, they took care of her and she could at least
eat one meal a day.
As she grew up
her relatives started to abuse her and toss her from one relative to
another, as a house help without giving her an opportunity to go to
school. In each of the homes of her relatives she had no peace. After
a long period of time she was made the house worker of one of her relative.
She was very
much abused, working all day long. Sometimes she was denied meals for
small mistakes she may have committed by not finishing the work she
was given on time. She slept late and woke up very early to start
house work. |
Life became
very hard for her and as a result she ran and lived on the streets of
the city of Nairobi. Life was harsher for her as she was harassed by
the street children. Then decided to go back to her relative where
she was beaten, chained and left to sleep in the cold.
At this point,
the neighbours decided to take the child to the local administration,
who ordered the child to be brought to our Orphanage.
We have been
able to rehabilitate her and take her to school. She is very bright
child who is doing well in school and we are trusting that she is
going to have a bright future.
This is going
to be possible by your prayer support. On our own we would have great
difficulty, but we are trusting that you are going to stand with us
in prayers.

The boy Kashene
Wxxxxxx is 8 years old according to our records. Kashene was the
first born in his family. At the age of five his father died as a
result of HIV/AIDS related diseases. He was left with his mother who
was also sickly in the slum of Kibera. HIV/AIDS has greatly affected
the people in the slum, more than any other place I can say.
His mother did
her best to do light work to feed her child and herself. As days went
by she became too weak because of sickness and poor eating. When
Kashene was 6 years her mother also passed away. Kashene was left
alone in the hands of the neighbours in the this slum of Kibera.
The neighbours
were sympathetic and gave him some food, especially in the evening
but sometimes they did not care about helping him. He sometimes spent
the night in the cold and he roamed the slum during day to look for food. |
 |
On 4th,
February, 2003 Kashene was brought to our orphanage by a neighbour
who had known his parents and sometimes helped him. He said, " I
have 8 children of my own that Im not able to feed, my house is
very full at night you have no place to pass for children sleep on
the floor in my small house which is ten by ten feet. I cannot take
care of an other one please help this child."
Kashene was
very weak and sickly as a result of not eating well. He smelled very
bad because he had not taken bath for so long and he no clothes. We
admitted Kashene into our Orphanage and then we took him to the
Hospital for medical check ups. He was treated for common diseases
and we were pleased to be told he had no life threatening diseases.
For the two
years Kashene has been in our orphanage and he has really changed
because he is now healthy and goes to school. He is in the second
grade (standard two) and he is now a very happy child having a place
to call home, with regular food, good clothing, a worthwhile
education, medical-care and parental love.
We are looking
forward and know that he is going to have a bright future as you pray
for us to be able to provide for him.
God bless you.
