Occasionaly,
individual projects will be supported by individual members or small
groups of members within the Order. This is one such project.
Manuguluru is a
small village of around 210 families which borders on the Kolleru
Lake, Mandavalli Mandal, Andhra Pradesh in South India. It is not a
particularly well off village and has a number of problems that need
outside support.
The local
Christian community requested help from the India Christian Mission
Church, for help funding a clean water project that would benefit the
whole community. The existing supply was polluted and presented
serious health risks.
It was agreed that
a proportion of the funding would be supported by the Order and the
remainder funded by the community, any shortfall being guarenteed by
the India Christian Mission.
Expertise, labour
and material would be locally sourced to benefit the local economy.
Following the
collection of evidence from village officials supporting the project
and from Government Organizations and NGO's, funds were sent and work
began late in 2008. It was hoped that the project would be completed
for the Christmas celebrations. Unfortunately, this work was not able
to start until 8th January because of the heavy rains but is now underway.
Costings worked
out as follows:
|
Rs 40910.00 |
funds provided by the village community |
|
Rs 50000.00 |
funds provided by The India Christian Mission |
|
£1055.00 |
funds provided from within the Order's membership |
These funds
enabled the purchase and assembly of 500 meters of water pipe, an
electrically powered pump and large water tank to be put to work
serving the whole community.
The link contact
with the India Christian Mission Church was with +Victor A. Rao and

Photographs of the
project work have been promised and will be uploaded as soon as they
have been received.
The Order receives
many requests for financial support for projects but is not able to
support them all due to limited funding reserves. This particular
project, a partnership between the local community, a reputable NGO
(ICMC) and the Order, validated by local officials was exceptional.

WATER PROJECT AT
MANUGULURU VILLAGE
From Archbishop
Victor A Rao, Province of India, ICMC.
Greetings in His
precious name.
By God's Grace and
by your generosity, we were able to finish the grounding of the
project and it started functioning from 9 th February 2009.
I have personally
attended at MANUGULURU village along with our Diocesan Secretary and
three pastors on 9 th February 2009 at about 10 : 00 a.m., The
villagers have gathered at the road itself, garlanded me and gave us
a graceful and awsome welcome. We have conducted a procession by
singing Church songs ( expressing thanks to God) and have gone to the
power room.
Revd.T.Yesuratnam,
the Treasurer of the Diocese, then prayed and I switched on and
declared the Water Project is inaugurated in the name of the Father,
and of the Son and of the Holy spirit.
The Suffragan
in-charge of the Project has explained to the villagers that how this
Water Project have come into being. He has explained about the
submission of the Project to OOCC and how you have taken this project
as personal and how you have funded this project by considering their
pressing need.
The Water was
poured and the people have danced like any thing expressing their joy
and giving slogans. I could not be able to express thier happiness.
They have no such facility for all these hundreds of years and nobody
( the leaders or the government ) have not considered this very needy
project. We all have prayed for the OOCC and especially for you and
your ministry and family. They have all told me to express their
heartfelt thanks to your goodself.
The Suffragan has
given a small message stating that "When the people looked up to
God, God has come to them. Like wise, when you looked up for the
water, God has allowed the water to come to you ".
Then we have
presented a document to the Village President in which we have
written that we have handed over the project to the village for maintenence.
I am really and
heartfully thankful to your goodself for your kind generosity. Let us
continue this love in God in future.
Yours very beloved
in Christ,
++ VICTOR A.RAO,
Province of India
