| Earth orbits the Sun at a distance of 150 million kilometres. It takes 365 and one-quarter days to complete one of these orbits. It is the definitive terrestrial planet and has a diameter of 12,756 km. The other terrestrial planets (earth-like) are Mercury, Venus and Mars. Earth has an atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen and is the only planet known to support life. It has one large moon, the only other planetary body to be visited by human beings. | ||
