He was to reach the World Final in 1968 scoring five points, the best effort by an Englishman, and that season averaged 10.72 for Exeter from 32 Matches In 1969 he appeared in 34 matches averaging 9.97, whilst in 1970 he again increased his average to 10.09 following his 33 match appearances for the Falcons.
Made no attempt to hide the fact that he wanted a move away from Exeter and got his wish at the close of the 1970 season when he moved to Swindon in an exchange for Bob Kilby.
