Chris was born in Canada, moving to Cornwall at an early age. He started his speedway career at the old St Austell track in the late fifties, then joined Plymouth in 1961 and was to recieve bad facial injuries in a meeting against Wolverhampton.

Chris spent another season at Plymouth before returning to St Austell. It was in a meeting at Exeter he suffered a broken arm in a nasty spill which kept him out of the sport for some time.

It was mid way through the 1964 season that he joined Exeter and scored a useful six points in his opening debut against Middlesborough. His wild and often overenthusiastic style of riding was to earn him the nickname of the "King of Crash" from the supporters and as a result he was to spend a lot of time out of the side through injuries. Barry Briggs once said of Chris," He would rather have him 50 yards behind him, but did not mind to much if he was fifty yards in front, as long as he wasn't near him".

He always seemed to spend as much time coming off his machine as he did staying on it, and once joked at an end of season dinner and dance, "I would stand on a chair to give my speech - but I'd probably fall off"

Only managed a couple of meetings that year scoring 11 points whilst the following season in 65 he averaged 4.67 from 36 matches. In 1966 he was a reserve for England agaist Russia but failed to get a ride and averaged 5.37 from 30 that season.

In 1967, he appeared in 28 matches averaging 5.55 then spent a lot of time out through injury in 1968 when he finished the season on an average of 5.71 from 18 meetings and appeared in 69 for 11 matches averaging 4.95

Sadly died in 2002 at the age of 63.
