Aussie Jack (Christened John but always known as Jack) first arrived over here in 1952 along with Neil Street, (both of whom were unknown at the time) and linked up with Exeter where he settled in quickly and was soon scoring highly. Pictured below are Jack and Neil Street.

In 1953 Jack became the first Southern League rider to gain a full international cap when he rode for an Australian side scoring 2 points, whilst in 1955, he topped the N.L Averages and rode in all of Exeters 32 league matches and scored double figures every time, his lowest score being 11.

When the County Ground closed in 1956, Jack moved on to join Poole and then to Leicester where he scored 766 pts from 89 meetings for the Lions. In 1962 Jack was on the move again, this time to join the Oxford "Cheetahs" where he totalled 393 pts from 60 outings. Jack was to finish 10th in the 1957 World Final with a score of 7pts in the Final staged at Wembley.

Jack was to later return to Exeter in 1965 in answer to an SOS from the Falcons, following the sudden retirement of Tim Bungy, and Jack promptly scored 11 against Sheffield. He was to remain at the County Ground further two seasons until retiring at the end of the 1967 season. In 1965 he had averaged 7.87 from 31 matches, 6.23 from 32 in 1966 and in his final year he averaged 6.66 from 32.

Jack was to come back to the Exeter camp once more in the late 1970's as the Junior coach, and whilst the records are a little bit sketchy, it shows Jack rode in 208 official matches for Exeter scoring almost 1,700 points.
