Peter had joined Exeter in 1987 as a junior following success on the Grass Tracks, and made three appearances for the Falcons to average 2,29. Got his big chance in 1988 when he was brought into the line up to make up the numbers, and his performance ensured he was to become a permanent fixture at the County Ground.

His performances saw his average grow year by year. In 1988 he had finished up on 5.53 from 29 meetings, whilst the following season he increased that by over a point to finish on 6.72 from 42 matches. By the close of the 1990 season, Peter was among the Heat leaders when he finished on 7.68 from 29 and was still climbing in 1991 to 8.08.
But sadly for Peter, the 1992 season was to be a disaster when after 16 meetings, a bad spill put him in plaster for 23 weeks. The following season, Peter switched to Swindon, but the move was a disaster and he was eventually replaced by Nigel Leaver. Apart from a brief spell at Poole, Peter drifted away from the sport until 1996 which brought when a phone call saw Peter make a return to the County Ground once more.
Despite his abscence, Peter had lost none of his ability and the 1997 season saw him return a 7.14 average from 41 matches. In 1998 he had a testimonial season, and was on the move upwards again when he finished on an average of 7.90 from 36 meetings. But just as before, bad luck was to hit Peter, when in the early stages of the season, he was involved in another bad spill and again, the injuries were to end his season.
At that point in time, Peter decided to call it a day and retired from the sport. One can only wonder what might have been had it not been for those serious injuries.
