Born 9th May, 1959 in Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia, Tony had originally rode in second half outings at Exeter in 1978 whilst on the books of Bristol. He injured his ankle on his debut for Exeter at Peterborough which forced him to miss three months before getting back into the side. Tony Garard appeared in 8 matches during 1980 averaging 5.76. Made a brief appearance in 1987 riding in four meetings and scored 7 from 8 rides.
GEDDES, HUGH 1948/49/50, 1954
Hugh's spell at Exeter saw him appear in 125 matches for the Falcon's and he amassed some 757 pts. He was to switch to Swindon for the 1951 season, whilst between 1952-53, he could be found racing in the colours of Cardiff where he was to average better, scoring 367.5 pts from 48 meetings. Hugh then returned for a short period to the County Ground in 1954. It was during the 1952-53 season that Hugh was to get an international ride, though oddly not for his native country Australia. Whilst England were on tour down under they found themselves a rider short so in stepped Hugh to make up the numbers.
GENT, VIC - 1949/50/51/52/53/54.
Although spending many seasons at Exeter, little trace can be found of Vic's achievements though he appears to have ridden no less than 171 times for the Falcons and scored 945 pts. Joined exeter from Plymouth, and once took part in an England "C" test match at the County Ground v Sweden with Vic scoring 9 pts as England won 61-46. He was eventually transferred back to Plymouth in May 1954.
GEORGE, TONY - 1968.
Bristolian Tony was just seventeen and a half when he signed for Exeter and was seen as an up and coming star after he had impressed Lew Coffin at the Weymouth training ground. As it transpired, he only appeared in three matches for the Falcon's from which he averaged just 1.14 points. Joined Second division Plymouth where he was soon to score double figures.
GERAN, JACK - 1952/53/54/55, 1965/66/67
Jack first came to Britain along with Neil Street in 1952 where they both linked up with Exeter. Took a short while to adjust but was soon to become a prolific scorer. In 1953 he was the first Southern league rider to win a full International cap, whilst in 1955 he topped the N.League averages. Withthe closure of exeter in 1955, Jack moved on to Poole, Leicester and Oxford before going back to Exeter in 1965 where he stayed until he retired at the end of the 1967 season. read more
GERHARDSSON, PER - 1967
Swede Per Gerhardsson was brought into the side of 67 as a replacement for fellow Swede Gunnar Malmqvist who had returned home. Nicknamed "Paggy", Per found it hard settling down in the British League, and despite showing some potential, he was released after just six matches for the Falcons when Gunnar announced he would be returning. In thos six matches he made 14 starts scoring 17 plus six bonus pts.
GIBBS, DAVID - 1987
Born November 8th, 1966 near Honiton, Devon, his father had been a track raker at Exeter for several years and David had been asked to sign for Exeter on his 16th birthday, but he opted to link up with Neil Street at Weymouth. Joined Exeter in 1987 on loan from Poole having missed only 4 matches for the Pirates in 1986 and where he had begun to show good form. looked promising at Exeter, but his form tailed off and he went on loan to Wimbledon. Appeared in 18 matches during 1987 for the Falcon's and he averaged 4.46.
GILBERTSON, ROSS - 1969
Ross Gilbertson had a very brief flirt with the County Ground during the 1969 season and made just nine match appearances in the colours of Exeter, ending up with an average of 4.55 from 29 rides. Had just one appearance in 1971 scoring 4+2 from 3 rides though I am not sure if this was a guest appearance or not.
GLOVER, LEN - 1961
Len had first riding speedway at Aldershot in 1952 and later with both Wimbledon and Oxford, before injuries accounted for his retirement in 1954. He then emigrated to Canada before returning to England in 1960 and eventually trying his hand at the County Ground. But after less than a dozen appearances, it became clear the the big Exeter track was not to his liking and was dropped from the Team. Made an appearance for Rayleigh some weeks later but in his first outing he crashed and was badly injured.
GOODY, COLIN - 1965/66/67
Born on 22/6/1933, Colin moved to Exeter in 1965 from Oxford where he had an average of around 6.0, but was to clearly find the County Ground to his liking. In his first season, Colin ended up as the Falcons top scorer finishing on an average of 9.95 from 39 meetings. Averaged 7.32 from 37 in 1966, despite endless mechanical problems and a busted thumb mid way through the season whilst 1967 he appeared in 13 matches averaging 6.78. During this period he was to also represent Exeter in the B.L Riders Final, reached the British Final of the World Championship and score 13pts for England against Scotland.

His scoring inceased every season until a slight dip in the 2000 season when it was thought a smaller track might be better and he switched to Trelawny. After spells with Somerset and C.L Wimbledon, he was back at the County Ground for the 2004 season and ended on a 7.74 average from 44 matches. Due to back problems, he announced he would not be available to ride in 2005, but took on the Team manager role instead.
GOULD, JOHN - 1988
Born in Exeter on 16th March 1967, John was to try his hand at speedway in 1984 and at one time was a plasterer with Bob Coles. Indeed, the father and son combination of the Cole's family were John's biggest influence in Speedway. Became a junior in 1986 and appeared in one match for Exeter whilst appearing in a couple of meeting during the 1987 season as well as one meeting in 1988.
GREEN, RICHARD - 1988/89/90/91/92/93
Born on August 16th, 1965 in Norfolk, Richard joined Exeter in 1988 and made a huge impact when he scored a paid maximum on his debut. He saw his averages climb steadily every season and in 1992 reached the P.L Riders Final finishing third. Walked out at the start of the 1993 season over the new pay regulations but returned soon afterwards. Then on the day of his 28th birthday, he was involved in a simple looking spill, but one that was to sadly end his racing career with a neck injury read more
GRUBMULLER, WALTER - 1977
Born 9.12.1952 in Vienna, Austria, Walter originally had trials at Newport and Wolverhampton in 1976 but neither were impressed. In 1977, he paid his own expenses to drive to Britain and get a trial at Exeter and so impressed the Exeter camp that that gave him a contract following a meeting against Polish touring side Stal Gorzow. Prone to injury, and making little impression, he was finally released after just 13 match appearances from which he averaged 4.0pts.
