The illustrator Ann Macbeth was born in Bolton. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art and became an Arts and Crafts designer in the style of Macintosh. She also worked in textiles (embroidered panels, banners, cloths etc) and taught embroidery at the Glasgow school from 1900.
Macbeth's drawings tend to be rather simple, with some good and fairly bold black and white work. Her illustrative work may be found fairly sparsely in the magazines of the turn of the century.
