About the Club
After the Second World War, almost every village
had a cricket team. But for various reasons in the late 1950’s
or early 60’s they gradually seemed to fold - Upton & Kexby being
one of them.
Then one evening in 1990 two local men, Harold Jubbs & Peter Rushton were having a discussion in the Rose & Crown about “the old days” of cricket, when Harold being a Methodist threw out a challenge to Peter, an Anglican, to a match between the two different denominations.
Consequently the first match took place in 1991, a cup was donated by Lloyds bank, and this became an annual event, played in a field in Lodge Lane, with teas being served and a raffle, the proceeds going to various charities. This continued for a number of years with the honours moving between the Church & Chapel.
Quite a lot of interest developed over the years, and in 1996 a meeting was held in (The Rose & Crown) to see if it was viable to form a new village club. This was agreed and a club was formed, and in 1997 we were accepted into the Gainsborough evening league, where we still are today. In addition to playing in the league and cup matches we play various friendly matches.
The initial committee was comprised of; President: Alan Beat, Chairman: Peter Ruston, Secretary: Dave Farrow, Treasurer: Colin Roebuck.
