Notice Six

I am researching my ancestors which include the Bennett family of Upton. My late grandfather, Percy Bennett was born in nearby Corringham in 1889.  I was therefore particularly interested in the History's references  to Sarah Sutton (nee Bennett) and the kind quotations about her taken from the Weslyan Methodist Magazine of 1875.  Sarah was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Bennett, who, though both born in Nottinghamshire around 1790  were living in Upton by the early 19th century.  Most of the Bennett generations in the 1800s were agricultural labourers living in cottages in the centre of the village; life must have been very hard. Thus far I have located only one gravestone in the church yard for a Bennett. That is Jonathan Bennett, a nephew of Sarah who died in 1892.
 
 I should be grateful if you would pass on to those concerned in the preparation of the history of the village my appreciation of their efforts. Perhaps you could also advise me if anyone would be interested in the Bennett family tree and notes which I am putting together or has any background information about the family.
