The Village Hall has been used for a wide variety of activates.  The most recent, during the past year, being the introduction of “Ballroom Dancing”. It is nice to have something that covers a wide age group.  Keep Fit, Bowls and Tae Kwando in our sporting bracket continue to use the Hall on a weekly basis.  Forest Rangers and more recently Junior Cricket use the facilities for extra training on a seasonal basis.

The W.I. holds their monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of every month and have played host to district functions.

We have been the chosen venue for quite a few children’s parties and have received very positive feedback as regards the facilities.

In June of 2007 we were with the help of £500 grant aid from W.L.D.C, able to replace the guttering at the front of the hall.  We also as part, had a front door repaired which had been necessary due to vandalism.

Rising costs for gas, electricity and insurance give cause for concern but at the A.G.M, it was decided to retain the current hiring rates for the current year, as a goodwill gesture for hirers.  Apart from regular weekly hires we felt unable to give any other preferential rates as this is something that was unfortunately abused in the past.

We were sad to see the closure of Upton Post Office, and the excellent service provided by Carole & John Smart.  There is an ‘outreach’ service 3 days of the week at the Village Hall, which will hopefully be used by the village people.  It was a pleasure to invite John & Carole to our meeting, to say a special thank you for all their support over the years, and to wish them well for the future.

To the future we are seeking grant aid for replacement windows, guttering for the rear of the hall, new doors and a facility to be able to section the hall off to reduce the size for smaller functions. We are extremely grateful for the donations towards this, received from the Parish Councils of Upton and Kexby, and hope that our application will be successful.

We hope continued use of the hall will allow us to provide facilities that the villagers can be proud of.
