The community police officer Julie MacFaul gave a report on crime in
the village. A car had been stolen and a handbag and jewellery had
been taken. Sturgate airport had also been hit. Clerk was to write
to the police chief re parking in the village. She had mentioned
this to him at another meeting and he had agreed to look into the
problem.
Councillors realised this would be a bigger problem for the next few
months, when EDF started bringing heavy vehicles through the village
for the pipe line. Village Hall report was given and was a promising
one with bookings up and finances better. The guttering on the east
side of the hall has been replaced. Councillors were concerned about
the path to the bus shelters on the church side. Highways have
promised a footpath to connect with the path near the phone box, but
the path has to wait until money is available in April. Clerk and
Peter Heath to ask for the path to be put in before this. Flooding
on Padmoor Lane was again raised; clerk to contact highways again
about this problem.
The website is being co-ordinated by two people, volunteers were
asked for and requests to organisations to use this site to
advertise their events were made. Projects for funding from EDF were
asked for from councillors and three projects were put forward. This
is for any inconvenience in the village during the pipe line laying
and the depot on the airfield. The burial ground issue is still in
abeyance, the two councils are waiting for planning permission from
WLDC before the councils can go ahead with the project. Grants were
made to Citizens Advice and LALC.
The newsletter will be published in early spring and
secretaries of organisations are asked to contact the clerk with any
events or news. The parish meeting will be held in the Methodist
chapel schoolroom on April 14th 09 at 7pm when all on the electoral
roll are invited to attend.
