Willingham and District Relief in Sickness Charity

Set up over 50 years ago, the charity was intended for the use of the parishes of Willingham, Kexby, Upton, Heapham, Springthorpe, and Corringham.

In cases of hardship, where an associated medical condition is involved, the charity may contribute towards, or help with, certain facilities.

One representative from each village serves as Trustee on the Committee:

Chair: Dr. K. Fickling (Willingham Surgery)

Gordon Wain (Willingham)

Margaret Bishop (Kexby )

Thelma Fysh (Upton )

Rosemary Winter (Heapham/Springthorpe)

Kathleen Laming (Corringham)

Secretary: Jane Spencer (Upton )

Representative members may be contacted for advice and help when the need arises.

Any village residents - regardless of age - may apply for help. Although the charity is not intended just for Senior residents, there are various appliances for the elderly available for short-term loan - e.g. wheelchairs, an electric bath lift, a bed rest support, and a surgical cushion.

Each year the Charity, (with additional help from some fundraising and grants from other village groups) aims to provide an opportunity for older residents to get together, free of charge, for a Christmas or New Year event. In Upton, the event is shared with our friends from Kexby. It is held under the title of “The Young at Heart” and welcomes all senior residents from the two villages to an afternoon tea party with entertainment afterwards, in January.
