The hunt met at an imposing country residence close to the village of Brooke, very near to Oakham. The house had fantastic views over Rutland Water and the surrounding countryside, even on a dull winters day the views were awe inspiring. Richard parked the trailer a couple of miles away from the house, as did most other people as parking at the house was limited, however, this had the added benefit of settling Oscar down before having to stand around at the meet.
The hack to the house went without incident, Oscar was on his best behavior taking in the surroundings and preparing for the mornings events.
Initially Richard kept Oscar to the rear of the 'pack', but it wasn't long before Oscar's superior fitness took him up to join the leading riders. The morning events confirmed Oscar's improving stamina with plenty of opportunity for a good gallop. The undulating terrain also provided a good test and again Oscar proved that he is willing and able to meet any challenge.
