Other Groups that were in Staines, Sunbury & Shepperton or Spelthorne Districts

5th Staines
The only Sea Scouts group in the original Staines District, 5th Staines was registered with the Scout Association on the 2nd August 1934. A Mr. R. N. Shelton is recorded as a founder member, possibly starting interest in the group sometime in 1933.
Meetings were held in a back garden somewhere in Ashford. A garage in Gordon Road, Staines was then obtained as a temporary H.Q.
In 1935 a boat was given to the Troop and a C. Austin took over the Troop as skipper until being forced to give up during World War Two. In 1943, Mr C Larkin was running the Troop single handed.
After the war, land near the river proved impossible to find and the idea of a floating H.Q. was considered. The barge yatch "Onda" put the troop afloat. The skipper in 1957 was Mr. S Irvin.
The Cub Pack was started in 1943 by Miss Loughran and in 1957 the Cubmaster was Mr. J. R. Patterson, who ran an annual Good Turn to the Male Geriatrics Ward in Ashford Hospital at Christmas. The Cubs raised funds for this with a Cubs Own earlier in the year.
The 5th Staines Scout Group was closed in January 2007.

1st Ashford Common
The 1st Ashford Common Scout Group, originally part of the Sunbury & Shepperton District, was closed in January 2007.

1st Halliford and
1st Shepperton Green groups were amalgamated in 2006 to form
1st Charlton (Air and Sea Scouts).

1st Ashford
Registered as a "stand alone" Cub Pack on the 19th November 1923, H.Q. in Woodthorpe Road, Ashford, later registered as a group on the 1st November 1928. Disbanded in May 1932 and amalgamated with 4th Ashford on the 18th May 1932.

6th Ashford
A Roman Catholic Group, started in 1940.
An A.S.M. warrant was issued to a Michael Godfrey O'Sullivan on the 24th April 1944, but the Scout section was closed for two years, either during or just after the Second World War due to lack of Scoutmasters.
It was re-opened in 1954 and in 1957 the Troop was run by S.M. O'Sullivan (possibly a relation) and A.S.M. Thatcher, whilst the Cub Pack was run by Miss Cordon and two Cub instuctors.
Michael O'Sullivan, as a patrol leader, was awarded the Cornwell Scout Award in 1942. The citation read :
"In spite of severe pain due to bone disease in the leg he carried on his work and continued to help the Troop erect Air Raid shelters. Later he underwent long and painful treatment in hospital."
The Group was amalgamated with 7th Ashford on the 28th September 1971.

9th Ashford
Meeting at the Baptist Hall, Ashford, the group was formed in 1954 but disbanded in 1957.

7th Staines
Sponsored by the Salvation Army, meeting at the Salvation Army Citadel, Kingston Road, Staines.
Records show the Troop reformed in 1941 by Skipper Wesley Page. It is unclear when the Troop might have been originally formed. Mr. John Fisk took over in 1943 when Skipper Page joined the Royal Navy. In 1945 Stephen Dale became Troop Leader.
In 1946, five scouts attended the Salvation Army in Sweden, which included a tour of Norway.
John Fisk (Jnr.) received his Queens Scout Award in Coronation week, one of the first Queens Scouts in the present reign.
Records show the group was increasing in activity in 1957 but disbanded in June 1959.

2nd Staines
Formed on the 23rd April 1926 and known as 2nd Staines (St. Mary's). Meeting in the Bridge Street Rooms, Bridge Street, Staines. Amalgamated with 1st Staines & Egham Hythe on the 24th February 1928 and known as 1st Staines (St. Mary's).

3rd Stanwell
Records show that there was a 3rd Stanwell Troop, formed in September 1943. It may well have been a "stand alone" troop. The Scoutmaster was a Mr. Sullivan, there is evidence that the troop was still going in 1945, no records after that.
