BENEFITS

BENEFITS AND CONCESSIONS FOR REGISTERED BLIND AND PARTIALLY SIGHTED PEOPLE.

WHAT IS REGISTRATION?

REGISTRATION IS VOLUNTARY, BUT IT DOES GIVE ENTITLEMENT TO CERTAIN BENEFITS AND MAKES IT MORE LIKELY THAT YOU WILL GET THE HELP YOU NEED.

YOU CAN BE INCLUDED ON YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL’S REGISTER ONLY IF A CONSULTANT OPHTHALMOLOGIST OR EYE SPECIALIST HAS COMPLETED A SPECIAL FORM.

IF YOU ATTEND AN EYE HOSPITAL, THEN YOU SHOULD TALK TO YOUR EYE SPECIALIST ABOUT REGISTRATION.

OTHERWISE, DISCUSS YOUR SIGHT PROBLEMS WITH YOUR GP, WHO MAY REFER YOU FOR FURTHER HELP.

WHAT IS A OVER 75 LICENCE?

An Over 75 Licence will be just like the television licence you normally buy - it is valid for 12 months and has to be renewed annually - but you won’t have to pay for it. It will be available for your main home.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR AN OVER 75 LICENCE?

Anyone who is 75 or over will be entitled to a free Over 75 Licence. The Over 75 Licence will cover you and anyone you live with, even if they are younger. If you live with someone else who is also eligible, only one of you needs to apply.
