Austria

We have to look back to 1910 when the first scout-like group in Austria developed in Wiener Neustadt.
In 1912 Emmerich Teuber (a former soldier) established the first Scouting group in Vienna in October 1912. At the same time the Catholic church also started a scouts organisation, the "Pfadfinderkorps St.Georg". After being presented to the public the scouts run by Emmerich "Papa" Teuber got excellent response and started to grow. The first camp took place in 1913.
The "Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Austria" is a democratic, apolitical movement for children and juveniles, open to people of all skin colors and all religious denominations.
In Austria, there are around 85,000 boy and girl scouts. Children, youths and adults are active in over 300 troops in all nine Austrian states, organized under the umbrella of the "Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Austria".
