Scout Cooking Practice
Four Scout Troops took part in the first practice session on Sat 7th Feb at 1st Thurstaston Scout HQ, of the District Cooking Competition. Two teams from 4th Moreton, one from 1st Frankby Greasby, one from 7th Moreton and one from 1st Thurstaston. The day began with a briefing from Angela - SL 4th Moreton as to the rules of the competition, the equipment required and allowed and what to expect on the day. Then the 26 Scouts were split into two Groups and given a training session in the use of hand axes and bow saws from Phill, GSL- 4th Moreton and Andy - SL 1st Thurstaston. The Scouts then began collecting the necessary wood and twigs to build their fires after
lunch - Sue, GSL 1st Thurstaston and Debbie ACSL nipped to the local chippy and chip butties were enjoyed by all with a hot drink to warm them up. After lunch, back to it and major efforts made by all to get the fires going, they did eventually but not in time to do any cooking ! just as well it was only a practice. Thanks to all the Leaders Dave & Phil 1st F/G, Alison and Paul 7th M, Phill and Angela 4th M and Sue, Debbie and Andy 1st Th for giving up their time and passing on their expertise and thanks to all the Scouts for a great day with excellent behaviour and manners and the beginnings of some really good teams for the future.
