There are two large geared winding engines at Cefn Coed, a Compound engine by Andrew Barclay & Sons, Kilmarnock  that hauled wagons up the drift  at Morlais Colliery, Llangennech and a single cylindered engine by Llewellyn & Cubitt of Pentre that was originally used to sink the No2 shaft at Cefn Coed and remained as a capstan engine for maintenance work. The Barclay engine has been erected at the foot of the chimney but the capstan engine remains by the winding engine house behind some rather unsightly temporary screens.

The Barclay engine of 1907. 15" & 24" x 2' 6" 120rpm at 90psi slide valves on both cylinders.

The Llewellyn & Cubitt capstan engine  Side view of the capstan engine.  I probably shouldn't be here.  View through the bars.
