The most exciting thing in St David's is the cathedral, the largest church in Wales and a wonderful
building which must be seen. A short article at a British Heritage site conveys the atmosphere of this tiny city (take the Pembrokeshire option after loading) and lots of general information (including accommodation) can be found at the City web-site. An enterprising outdoor activities centre, Twr-y-Felin, runs day-courses and has a good shop in the town selling everything a walker is likely to need. Finally, general information about the area may be found at the The Pembrokeshire National Park Site and, more specifically, at The National Trail site. |
| Unfortunately one of the best sites for general information run by the magazine
Walking Wales has ceased to exist but the magazine is well worth taking.
To subscribe to it send an email to walking wales. Long distance footpaths in Britain is a non-commercial site with beautiful maps and lots of links and information. The middle section of the walk which coincides more or less, with the Cambrian Way is not well-served with informative sites (please email me if you know of any and I will add links) There is some interesting information about Strata Florida visited on Day 11. But your best plan is to buy the famous book Cambrian Way by A.J. Drake (currently £5.50 from Amazon) The site Walking holidays on the Cambrian way offers excellent arrangements for walkers wishing to attempt part or all of this tough challenge route devised by Drake. The organisers provide a pre-programmed GPS and a mobile telephone (see our Equipment page for information about the GPS) Of the many options already available on this site, the section called 5 rivers walk covers Llandovery to Plymlimon and would be suitable for the middle of the St Davids Bangor Walk. For Red Kite information, have a look at the splendid photo at the top of the accommodation page and try the link below it to Gigrin farm and the Welsh Kite Trust. More good photos are to be seen on a Mid-Wales tourist site and The Ramblers Association offer much general information on a fact sheet and book list including the Long Distance Walkers Handbook. Indeed, the whole Ramblers Association site has much of interest. Snowdonia is served by innumerable accommodation sites (try any of the search engines) Wales Holidays is worth looking at; also Hiking Vacations in the UK For the end of the walk try the university based site, for information about Bangor.
