Divergence

The film begins with a prologue of a girl being followed by a guy, from the look of him to do her some harm. This plan is thwarted, however, when he's suddenly garrotted by an unseen killer. Remember this prologue - it won't be referred to again for almost the entire film, but it's still A VERY IMPORTANT PLOT POINT. Divergence is full of such VERY IMPORTANT PLOT POINTS scattered hither and yon almost at random, as if the editor would occasionally remember "oh crap, these characters are all supposed to have Troubled Pasts, I'd better stick a flashback in here!"

Invisible Target

The first thing to say about Invisible Target is just how fast the filmmakers set out their proverbial stall; we’re not 2 minutes in and already a character is flashing her mobile phone in extreme close-up. One could argue the punishment for such a crime is a little extreme, since she's blown up by a bunch of cool slo-mo walking, shades-wearing, Heat-ripping-off bad guys who are robbing an armoured truck. Six months later, the girl's fiancé Chan Chun (Nicholas Tse) and his phone are still in mourning. He's now a Cop On The Edge who is Out For Revenge, albeit one with a really nice phone.

After disappearing offline for the last quarter of 2007, Steamed Prawn Buns is back with what I think is a spiffy (and rather simplified) not-really-new-anymore look. Above you'll find details of recent reviews, plus I'll be adding older ones back as and when I have time to reformat them. Submit any comments to the email address via the link at the bottom right hand side, and enjoy your stay.
